The DP Series diamond point level switch is designed specifically for use with dry products ranging from heavy materials such as stone, aggregates and ready-mix cement, to very low-density materials like fly ash, cornflakes and flour. Its unique principle of operation and shape ensure that it is self-cleaning. Because this solids level indicator is only sensitive near its tip, it will not be affected by any build-up of product on the storage vessel walls. This immunity is helpful in the reduction of false trip alarms.

Hycontrol's diamond-shaped vibrating blade is unique in both design and construction. It is highly reliable and, thanks to its vibrating action and unique shape, it has a self-cleaning action that prevents the build-up of falling media along the sensing blade. If mounted in a horizontal position, it will sense a rising surface only when it makes contact at the probe tip. The cleverly-engineered internal structure of the blade gives the probe greater strength and stability, helping to prevent premature failure through bending or damage, as well as ensuring more accurate readings.

The standard model DP220 has an insertion length of approximately 173 mm and can be mounted to the container from the top or the side, allowing use for both high- and low-level detection functions. The probe connects to the container or vessel via a thread of 1½" BSP, NPT or DIN. They are quick and straightforward to install and set up, and with no moving parts to wear out, users can expect a long functional life from their level switch device.

With minimum maintenance requirements and a strong track record of success, the DP120 is an excellent choice for solids point switching applications. Furthermore, the probe is fully Ground Level Test-enabled, providing users with guarantees of functionality and reducing working at height requirements.

The operating principle for all Hycontrol vibrating probe level switches is the same: a piezoelectric crystal forces a blade to oscillate at its fundamental frequency (also referred to as the natural resonance). When the blade of the probe comes into contact with the process media, this dampens the natural frequency of oscillation; the electronics sense the change in frequency which causes the unit to switch.
